Leadership Success in a Changing World

This month’s topic, while it’s about change, it  is more about knowing yourself and how you can be effective. You are the gold and you are the $.

The world is changing and we are all impacted. Our beliefs reflect how much we become affected. While there are factors we can’t control outside of ourselves, we do have control over how we respond. We can learn to respond in ways that free our energies, allow us to expand, create synergies and circles of support for success.

Have you considered in detail what success means to you? If you haven’t thought about how you will feel when you are successful, you can benefit from doing more thinking.

Many people have narrow definitions of success, with very broad and unachievable expectations. For example, what if you said, “If my business achieves a 15 % growth in customers, then I will be successful.”

Really?

What does that 15% buy you? Maybe a bonus, a trip with your family, a better job at another company, debt reduction, staying employed; having a greater sense of security or control, or more confidence?

See what I mean?

Leaders are especially vulnerable to tunneled views of success. The definitions of success come from both the outside and internal places.

Setting yourself up to succeed through ups and downs is a matter of broadening your definitions of success and setting up achievable steps in this direction.

There are 4 areas to consider for success:

• Know yourself
• Know how you and your colleagues, clients and business partners support each other
• Know your needs, your circles needs, business needs and what facilitates your business to be positive and productive.
• Pay attention to how you create the support that will help you achieve your goals

When you achieve these basics, you can go into any situation and flourish.

Action Steps

Take some time to think on each of these areas, to find your personal definition of “success.” Be sure to make notes in your journal around each point.
To your Happiness and Success,

Andrea
